Review: Coming 2 America (2021)

Official Synopsis:

Needing a male heir to the throne, Prince Azeem returns to Queens, N.Y., to find his long-lost son and bring him back to Zamunda.

Coming 2 America is the long awaited sequel to the 1988 film Coming to America. After over 32 years, I guess the main question on everyone's minds is, was it worth the wait?

Coming to America was released at the height of Eddie Murphy's fame. Although Coming 2 America was nothing special story wise, it does offer some decent entertainment for long-time fans of the first film. Filled with numerous references to the first film, Coming 2 America is brimming with nostalgia. With nearly the entire original cast coming back to reprise their old roles, it is really a joy to see these old faces jump back effortlessly into their familiar roles that us audiences have come to know and love. Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall bring back all their side characters from the barbershop gang to the Sexual Chocolate's, Randy Watson. Even though it was cool to see all those cameos, Coming 2 America really does start to feel like a really long reunion special after a while. Since it really doesn't bring anything new to help innovate or reinvigorate the franchise, this sequel really relies heavily on how much we enjoyed the original film.
